NZ best country in world for business
New Zealand has again been rated the top country in the world for ease of doing business, Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.
The rating, in the Doing Business in 2006 report prepared by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, puts us ahead of 144 other countries.
Others in the top five, in order, are Singapore, the US, Canada and Australia.
The areas measured are starting a business; hiring and firing workers; enforcing contracts; registering property; getting credit; protecting investors and closing a business.
That New Zealand should compare so well internationally is a credit to the quality of our regulatory regime and to the governments economic management, Dr Cullen said.
